We all moan about other drivers but ...

In my work I drive all over the country, spending a lot of time on Britain’s motorways. Being an ex-traffic police officer I see many incidents of poor driving and some of even dangerous driving. But on of thing that really does infuriate mate is people ‘Tail Gating’

The other day as I was travelling on the M6 north through Cheshire in heavy congested traffic I was in the middle lane passing slower moving traffic to my left with faster traffic in the outside lane. This was 3 lanes of solid traffic with no possibly other than to sit in the queue and take you time.

For mile after mile a medium sized truck sat less than a cars length behind me at speeds between 40 and 60 mph. Everyone else close around me was driving at a safe and comfortable speed and distance. Why did I get the idiot!!!

Why is the banking system is so behind?

I have always considered banks somewhat as an evil necessity so the current uproar over banks levying excessive charges and removing credit cards from people who pay their bills on time come as no surprise to me.

My biggest gripe with them is about all the interest they earn from us hold our money in ‘cyberspace’. Other than paying the occasional cheque into my bank I do all my banking online. I notice when I check my statement that any cash withdrawals, payments for shopping at the supermarket, ticket bought online etc show up within hrs on my statement and payment taken out of my account. I have no problem with paying for good I have bought when I buy them.

But when I pay my credit card bill which is with the same bank I have my bank account with, it goes from my current within hours but isn’t credited to my credit card account for days. The month’s payment took for days. Why does it take any time at all to perform an electronic transfer of funs and who is getting all the interest on the money held in this way? No wonder banks have a poor reputation and make so much money.

Labour News Machine - a new spin from Gordon?

THE TIMES today runs a story where regional newspapers were fed a story which led them to understand that the Prime Minister himself was going to lavish praise by name on a local school.  The stories were obviously run in Birmingham, Lancashire, Yeovil and Bradford.

When the PM gave his actual speech - which schools did he actually name?  Not one.  So much for being straight with everyone then.

We're picking our Parliamentary Candidate

Interviews are starting this weekend to shortlist applicants to become the new Parliamentary Spokesman for Chorley.  The successful applicants will go forward to a new-style Primary event to be held in Chorley Town Hall on Wednesday July 18th.

Members of the public along with members will have the opportunity to select the candidate at the event, with each of the candidates being seperately interviewed.  In a series of votes, the overall winner must have more than 50% of the vote.

Telephone Mast - it's the Government not the Council

COUNCILOR HAROLD HEATON (Chairman of Planning) was right in his assertion in the local press that many masts don't need planning permission, and that the MP should be taking on his Government instead of pointing any concern at Chorley Borough Council.

With many new masts looking no different to a lamp post, it is difficult to challenge on appearance, and planners cannot take into account any other issue other than appearance and siting for smaller masts.  The Consrvative Party has always been critical in the way that planning legislation applies to masts.

Chorley high on the radar!

DURING an interview on Sky News on Sunday, William Hague MP used Chorley Borough Council election successes last year as an example of how the Conservatives are winning back local councils throughout the north.  Mr Hague is Chairman of the new Northern Board of the Conservative Party.

LABOUR RAID ON PENSIONS CONFIRMED BY TIMES

The Times newspaper today reveals that in 1997 New Labour went ahead with schemes against warnings from the civil service that has cost pension schemes £5 billion a year.  Cumulatively, this means that £100 billion has been lost from pension schemes in the last decade The Time asserts.   This report only confirms Conservative Party arguments on this issue all along.  Just another matter for Labour MP's everywhere to worry about.

MP's Communications Fund

MP's will be voting this week to vote themselves an extra £10,000 Communications money;  the Conservative Party is opposed to this and is seen as not a good way to spend taxpayers money.  Should this be approved, will any MP's opt not to use it?

Chancellors Budget Speech

Gordon Brown's budget speech "shock" of tax cuts from the Labour Party lasted all of one day as reality struck home today.   Not only are many measures NEXT year, not all that many people will really benefit.   Removing the 10p minimum tax rate was the real shocker from the Labour Prime Minister in waiting.
