As we move towards council reorganisation through new Unitary Councils, the new SOUTH LANCASHIRE COUNCIL 1 will be responsible for:
- education
- highways
- planning
- fire and public safety (will transfer to Mayoral responsibility once a Mayor elected)
- social care
- libraries
- waste management
- trading standards
- rubbish collection
- recycling
- Council Tax collections
- housing
- planning applications
We're recruiting potential Conservative Candidates who back our values to join our approved list of council candidates who can then go on to apply for vacancies ahead of elections due on May 6th 2027.
With Chorley Council merging with South Ribble and West Lancashire Council's, plus taking on responsibility for County Council functions, these will be key elections forming a shadow council ahead of vesting in May 2028.
We are particularly keen on inviting local people with real experience from the business community to bring their knowledge to the council and those with strong local community connections and fight for the interests of their local area and Chorley in a new council that is likely to cover at least three current council areas.
Applicants can be both members and non-members at the time of applying, but will be required to be party members when on our approved list of candidates and on selection as a candidate for a council ward or division.
