A second by-election has been called following the resignation of another Labour councillor this time for Chorley Council's Buckshaw and Whittle Ward. Their in-person attendance since May 2023 was only 63.6%.
Only two weeks ago another by-election was held for Chorley's East Ward which was held on the same day as the county council election.
The Labour Government plans to scrap district councils like Chorley by merging them into new super councils with populations of 500,000 or over.
For Chorley that could mean merging with Preston, South Ribble and West Lancashire councils to meet population expectations along with taking on county council roles including social services, education, highways and other strategic activities.
It is expected that the by-election will be held within the next 35 working days.
