We want to improve the NHS, but not through yet another target.
That is why we are publishing NHS performance data so that everyone can see how the NHS works for them. This increase in transparency is about improving patient outcomes and focusing on learning and understanding, rather than blame. This will help doctors and managers do what they want to do anyway: improve the safety and care with which they look after patients.
These changes will help improve people’s care in the NHS and help secure a better future for Britain – one where people can be confident that when they or their loved ones need it, our NHS will be there for them.
