Becoming a councillor

We're always looking for talented local people interested in helping the community and becoming an elected Councillor on our local councils.

In 2020, every Councillor role is being contested as Chorley Borough Council forms a new 42-strong council based of 14 new ward boundaries. 

And next year we'll also be selecting 8 candidates for Chorley's Lancashire County Council divisions with elections being held on 6 May 2021. Applicants can also apply for any other division across the County.

Councillors can receive an allowance so that they are not disadvantaged through work commitments through the Chorley Council Member Allowance Scheme August 2017 and Lancashire County Council schemes.

First cycle of elections to be based on new Ward boundaries, with three councillors in each ward, and all councillor vacancies being contested to form a new council.
